Johnny Lewis Results from Springfield TT and Mile

SPRINGFIELD, ILL. (June 3, 2010) - A renewed focus on flat track racing now has Scott Powersports/DR.D/Pit Posse/Monster Energy's Johnny Lewis as one of the AMA Pro K&N Grand National Championship regulars. In his second time racing the Springfield TT main, he earned an eighth-place finish even with no front brake. Hoping for a top-twenty practice time in the first race on the Scott Powersports Kawasaki Ninja 650 custom flat-tracker, Lewis had the eighth-quickest time.

The Springfield Flat Track weekend at the Illinois State Fairgrounds typically draws a large crowd of competitors and thousands of fans. This year was no different as the Springfield Mile had 60 entries.

On his Scott Powersports/DR.D/Pit Posse Honda CRF450R, Lewis had the eighth-quickest practice time for the Springfield TT on Saturday, May 29. During his heat race, he was gunning for a win and entry into the Dash for Cash. However, a front brake failure caused Lewis to soldier to a third-place finish, which did earn him a direct transfer to the main event. On to the 25-lap main event, Lewis had a solid start on his Honda in the 20-rider field. Hanging it out near the top five, his front brake once again failed forcing him to ride smart and smooth to the checkers with a very respectable eighth-place finish.

The Springfield TT result places Lewis in fifth place in the AMA Pro GNC Singles standings with 45, only 12 points out of first place. He will have a chance to add to his point tally this Saturday, June 5 at Gas City I-69 Speedway in Indiana.

"Saturday I had the speed and the bike to be top five, maybe even top three during the TT," said Lewis who wears ONE Industries gear. "I was bummed when my front brake heated up and failed in both the heat race and then after we replaced it, in the main. I've already been in contact with my friends at Beringer Brakes to get a reliable, high-performing front brake for the next round. Fortunately, I didn't lose much ground in the championship standings."

On Sunday, May 30, Lewis jumped on his new Scott Powersports Kawasaki 650 flat tracker for the first-ever race for this bike and the first AMA Pro GNC Twins race for him. The goal for both Lewis and Mike Scott of Scott Powersports was to have a top-twenty qualifying time and test the racing waters on the high-speed track for both bike and rider. After three practice sessions, Lewis notched eighth-quickest among an elite field of riders. In his heat race, Lewis was hanging around in fifth place trying getting a feel for the bike and track. After the white flag waved for the final lap, he stepped it up and drafted by a few riders to get to third. Though that would be short-lived as the bike experienced a motor failure, knocking Lewis out of the heat and the rest of the day.

Lewis added, "I cannot even describe how excited I am about the Springfield Mile and the results on the new Kawasaki 650 considering the short riding time and the first time in a pro mile race for me. I only rode this bike once before the race. Mike Scott and Jim did an awesome job building the bike including the super custom frame. Mike is going to stay back at the shop this week while I head to Gas City and make sure we're ready for the next Twins race, the half-mile in Lima, Ohio. Although we didn't make the main event, we have a fixable motor issue and know we can be successful with this bike."

Racing fans be sure to head to Gas City I-69 Speedway in Gas City, Indiana this Saturday, June 5 to catch Scott Powersports/DR.D/Pit Posse/Monster Energy's Johnny Lewis on the #10 black Honda CRF450R.
