SACRAMENTO, CA (July 12, 2021) – Former American Flat Track motorcycle racer Nichole Cheza Mees, having competed in the most AFT SuperTwins national races by a woman, has been named Grand Marshal for the Sept. 11-12 Law Tigers Legendary Sacramento Mile presented by Knauf Insulation doubleheader racing weekend set for the Cal Expo dirt track oval.

Mees, married to five-time AFT SuperTwins national champion Jared Mees, competed at the Sacramento Mile on numerous occasions and was the fourth woman to ever hold an Expert rider national number with her popular No. 15. She retired of competitive flat track racing after the 2015 AFT season.

Nichole competed in 32 AFT SuperTwins Grand National finals, the most of any woman in series history.

“I’m very honored to the Grand Marshal for the legendary Sacramento Mile,” said Mees. “I raced at Cal Expo many times and always enjoyed the track. I definitely miss the racing on track and the fans at the races right now. I was very competitive, and I miss that feeling of racing handlebar-to-handlebar on the motorcycle. But now I am busy as a race promoter (with Jared at Lima, Ohio), wife and mom (to four-year-old daughter, Hayden) as well as rooting for Jared.”

At just 5-foot-1, 120 pounds, Mees had the difficult chore of handling a 750cc Harley-Davidson on half-mile and mile dirt tracks at speeds up to 140 mile per hour and sliding the 300-pound bike in the corners at 100 m.p.h. But Nichole proved very capable of racing the men including placing a career-best seventh at Knoxville, IA, half-mile and eighth at Springfield, IL, mile tracks.

Mees was born in Flint, MI, and resides in Clio, MI, and Sebastian, FL. She started riding at the age of three and began racing at five. In 2003, she won championships in both dirt track and ice track racing. Mees was the American Motorcyclist Association's Female Rider for the Year for 2003. Nichole climbed the motorcycle ranks to the prestigious Expert category in 2004 and captured the tough Twins “Dash for Cash” event at Springfield in 2008.

“We want to thank Nichole for her great contributions to the sport of motorcycle racing,” said Steve DeLorenzi, president of SDI Racing,LLC, promoters of the Sacramento Mile doubleheader races. “She has been a tremendous role model and mentor for young female racers throughout the country and we are delighted she will be back at Cal Expo this year.”
