Mees and Texter Look for Repeat AFT Wins in Saturday’s Oklahoma City Mile

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (June 12, 2018) – No doubt about it… domination and heartbreak were on full display at last year’s OKC Mile presented by Indian Motorcycle of Oklahoma City.

The domination came from Indian Motorcycle’s Jared Mees (No. 1 Indian Motorcycle Rogers Racing SDI Scout FTR750) and his ‘Wrecking Crew’ teammates, the trio of Mees, Bryan Smith (No. 4 Indian Motorcycle Racing backed by Allstate Scout FTR750) and Brad Baker (No. 6 Indian Motorcycle Racing backed by Allstate Scout FTR750) sweeping the podium for the fourth time, with Mees getting his fourth win and eighth straight podium on his way to the 2017 AFT Twins presented by Vance & Hines title.

The heartbreak was supplied by AFT Singles competitor Kevin Stollings (No. 99 Roof Systems of Dallas Honda CRF450R) who, coming off a dramatic win-DQ-win performance two weeks earlier at the Red Mile, had his engine explode while locked in a battle with eventual winner Shayna Texter (No. 52 ST52 JCS Racing Husqvarna FC 450) and Tristan Avery (No. 16 Ron Ayers/Mr. Sign Honda CRF450R) for the lead and win with just two laps to go.

The drama is set to play out yet again this coming weekend when the OKC Mile returns to Remington Park. Question is, can Texter and Mees repeat?

Mees would seem to have the upper hand in AFT Twins competition given his relative dominance so far this season – six wins in eight races. But after being beaten at Springfield by Jeffrey Carver Jr. (No. 23 Roof Systems of Dallas/Indian of Metro Milwaukee Scout FTR750) and being hounded on occasion by Kenny Coolbeth Jr. (No. 2 Nila Racing/Columbia Avionics Indian Scout FTR750), Davis Fisher (No. 67 Double D Performance/RMR Indian Scout FTR750), and current point-standings runner-up Henry Wiles (No. 17 Bandit Industries/Wilco Racing/Willing Built Indian Scout FTR750), there are a few cracks in the Mees armor.

And then there’s Chad Cose (No. 49 Indian Motorcycle of Oklahoma City Scout FTR750) and the hometown team of Indian Motorcycle of Oklahoma City. Is this Cose’s time to get back on the podium as he did in Texas?

Texter’s always been fast on the Miles, and while she’s reached the AFT Singles podium three times this year, she’s not yet gotten a win after scoring five last year. The problems for her are numerous: Points leader Dan Bromley (No. 62 KTM North America/Bromley Motorsports 450 SX-F), who’s fast and consistent; Kevin Stollings, who’ll be out to avenge his disastrous 2017 OKC Mile performance; Tristan Avery, also out for redemption; reigning AFT Singles champ Kolby Carlile (No. 1 Estenson Racing Yamaha YZ450F), and several others.

It’s gonna be good.
