RLT Racing's Shayna Texter Recaps Start to 2012 Season on Her DFW Honda

SAVANNAH, Ga (April 9, 2012) - The first Female to win an AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Pro Singles Main Event, Shayna Texter, had worked hard all winter long and was ready to start the season off on a positive note.

Loading up the RLT Racing Honda #25A machine for the haul to Daytona meant a stop in Savannah, Georgia for the first round of the AMA All-Star Championship Series. Texter felt fast right off the truck. Talking with her crew after practice it was go out run the Heat and save the rear tire for the Main event. As Shayna took the Green, a good start paid dividends as she was able to stay in passing positions as the heat race wound down to take the Win. Coming into the Pit area a check over on the bike, Texter was able to study the track as others rode their heats and the LCQ events.

With the line-up for the Main, Texter took her Honda from the second row as the track went green. Not the best of starts but again able to make passes count, Texter was biding her time when a crash occurred which caused the Red Flag fly - stopping the race. Medical attention was needed but later it was reveled a rider suffered a broken leg. The Race Track had an imposed curfew; with the added attention of the Medical Crew the Race Event was stopped. Texter recorded a 5th place finish for the night. While Shayna was disappointed for the short night, she was very confident in her speed and performance aboard the Honda. Tonight they welcomed Sponsorship from the United Iron Workers Local 387 of Atlanta Georgia and headed for Daytona Beach, Florida and BIKE WEEK.

Daytona Beach, Florida has been the official start for the AMA Pro Racing season. This year marked the 71st Running of Daytona 200 Road Race, and they were celebrating 50 years of Short Track Racing. Spectators and riders from all over the US and foreigners from around the world come to the famous Daytona International Speedway to get the season started with BIKE WEEK.

After a week of working on the race bike, relaxing talking with sponsors and fans, Shayna was ready to compete at the AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com Pro Singles events – two separate races. In the past Daytona has not been kind to Texter and the RLT Crew. In fact the last three seasons Texter has left the start of the AMA Pro tour with zero points.

This season teaming up with DFW Honda - a noted Honda Dealership from Dallas-Ft Worth, presented itself with rider proven equipment. Shayna was looking forward to working with the Lamb Family who has supported Flat Track Racing for years.

With sign-ins complete the Pro Single’s Class had 70 entries vying for the 32 starting positions for the night’s event. To make the field qualifying would take place to give you placement in your Heat Race.

Finishing positions from the heat would advance you the LCQ – last chance qualifier or move you directly to the National Main Event.

Making the show was paramount. Texter put it in the show and ran her Heat advancing directly to the Main Event. The DFW Honda was the missing link for Shayna as it performed well matching her skilled ability.

As the Main event lined up, eighteen fellow competitors felt the pressures intensify causing a couple of jumped starts. Finally the green flew the riders were 3 and 4 wide and a crash blocked the track. Shayna laid the bike down in a slide to keep from hitting downed riders who were blocking the track. Cleaning up the crash, the riders were called to re-start the race; Shayna was forced to the penalty row. Again the light went Green and Shayna began picking off the 18 riders ahead of her and finishing 12th in the National.

Day two the second event on the GNC Tour, Texter felt she had the equipment under her with the DFW Honda. She now knew what to expect felt the long hours of practice had given her the edge needed to compete. The DFW Honda was working awesome and she qualified solid during the day program.

In her heat race she missed a direct transfer by one position. Texter came back through the LCQ to make her second National Main event at the Daytona Short Track.
Texter had a poor start in the main event and came around the first corner in 18th place. The track was very difficult to pass on, but she managed to ride smart and make some passes to finish 11th, one spot better then yesterday.

"The DFW Honda was working awesome and I am just very thankful we got my program together in time for solid results here in Daytona”. “I now know I can compete on short tracks and I am very pleased with that. I just want to thank Sammy Sweet, Rich Hanson, Bryan Simcox, Kenny Tolbert, Clayton Wright, my brother Cory, my family, sponsors and fans for all their support”. “My Dad always said Daytona was tough and getting any kind of "bonus points" you could from here would help you later on in the season.”

Shayna is currently 15th (in points) in a very tight Pro Singles Championship, but only 9 points out of 2nd place. Minimizing the damage on one of her worst tracks was her goal on her way to winning the championship this season. She will be training hard, riding some motocross events with the team, and finishing up her program while the series waits until Memorial Day weekend to get back underway. As the AMA Pro Flat Track GNC Tour travels to the Illinois State Fairgrounds for competition on the TT & Mile in Springfield, IL.
