DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (November 17) – Richie Morris Racing (RMR) announced today that it will return to the American Flat Track (AFT) Singles class for 2018, signing Ryan Wells to compete for the team aboard the RMR Honda CFR450R.

For 2018, the AFT Singles will be a stand-alone class which enables OEMs currently without a Twin bike to showcase their product.

“RMR thought long and hard as to which class made the most sense in 2018,” said team principal Richie Morris. “With the new structure of the Singles class, it made sense for RMR to continue our Singles program with Honda. Al Lamb Dallas Honda has been a great partner and friend. I just couldn’t see doing the 2018 season without his involvement.”

RMR fielded a Honda in 2017 AFT Singles competition, with Shayna Texter winning five races and placing third in the championship.

“RMR has always been in the business to win races,” Morris said. “I felt we needed a rider that was young enough to run a Single and mature enough to graduate to a Twin when we were ready. I wanted someone who could excel in all genres of our sport – Short Track, Half-Mile, Mile, and TT. We want to win a championship and this was a very important ingredient to look for in a rider when your only goal is winning races and championships.”

Wells, the 2016 GNC2 champion, finished 11th in 2017 AFT Twins competition, with his best finish fourth at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The 22-year-old native of Rochester, New York has been competing professionally since 2012.

“Joining RMR is a great opportunity for me to build as a rider and I believe it is going to be awesome for my future in the sport,” said Wells. “I am also very excited to work with this great group of guys that are dedicated and want nothing more than to win. I have two goals this year and it’s pretty simple. I want to win races, and I want to win the singles championship for the second time.”

Prior to winning the 2016 GNC2 title, he placed second in the points in 2013 and third in 2014. Wells has seven career victories in AFT Singles/GNC2 competition, including the Daytona Short Track in his professional debut in 2012, and five triumphs among nine podium finishes in his 2016 championship season.

“Ryan (Wells) is eager and wants a position with a team that has a long-term championship mindset,” added Morris.  “He has the ‘whatever it takes’ attitude and is not afraid of hard work. That’s what it will take to be a champion in either of the AFT premier classes. We have a three year plan and our goal is for him to be champion in both classes. We are happy to have Ryan kick off our plan at Daytona in March.”

The 2018 AFT season will open at Daytona International Speedway on Thursday, March 15 with a TT on a redesigned faster and longer layout inside the world’s only motorsports stadium.

RMR anticipates announcing additional news about the 2018 season in the near future.
